Mix 102.3 is an adult contemporary station in Adelaide and is owned by Australian Radio Network. The station started its life as 5AD and was Adelaide's first commercial station launching in 1925.
5AD was created by The Advertiser and its callsign represents its owner and city. Until its demise in 1930, 5AD was part of the Federal Radio Network which also included 2UW and 3DB. They are now KIIS 106.5 and KIIS 101.1 and still sister stations to Mix 102.3.
In 1987 Hoyts Media bought 5AD to prepare for the FM switch in 1990 with the plan to create Triple M. But they were unsuccessful and the two AM stations converted were 5KA and 5DN. Three years later in 1993, Hoyts bought KAFM and is now Triple M.
5AD was sold to the Australian Radio Network who also owned 5DN. 5DN's relaunch as a music station on FM was unsuccessful. The stations changed frequencies with 5AD moving to 102.3FM with its hits and memories format.By 2001, 5AD FM had become an adult contemporary station. To reflect its format, the station was renamed Mix 102.3.
